To celebrate Independent Bookshop Week, Saturday 15 June – Saturday 22 June, we’re hosting a poetry competition and asking children and young people aged 6 – 18 to share their words with our little bookshop in Newquay.

The theme is ‘found’, and budding poets can interpret this however they choose to. It may be inspired by objects discovered, a friendship formed, or something lost which you hope to find again one day. It’s completely up to you and ‘found’ is just a word to get your poem off the ground.

There will be 3 runners up who will each receive a £10 Clemo Books gift voucher. 1 winner will receive a £20 Clemo Books gift voucher and their poem will be displayed in Clemo Books window for all the bookworms of Newquay to enjoy and published in the journal section of Clemo Books website.

The judges of Clemo Books Young People’s Poetry Competition will be local writer and poet Lucy Beckley, author of Adrift: The Curious Tale of the Lego Lost at Sea Tracey Williams, and Clemo Books’ owner Jaimie Poyner.

Entries can be made online via this Google Form and paper entries can be posted or handed into Clemo Books, 33b Bank Street, Newquay, TR7 1DJ.

Entries should be no more than 1 side of A4 paper and we ask that the competition entrant’s name and contact details be included with the submission. The competition is open from Monday 3 June and closes midday Saturday 22 June, the last day of Independent Bookshop Week.

A winner and runners up will be notified on Friday 28 June. The winning poem will be displayed in the window in July.
